Murphy (or Dirty Murphy to his friends) was a very special dog.
He arrived 5 hours after his brothers were born and came out running!
It was Easter Sunday and my Dad was at my Uncle Pete's enjoying a pint of Murphy's Irish Stout. When Mum called to tell him Miemie had decided to have another puppy and so Dad named him Murphy, (His show name was a badly spelt version of Murphy's Irish Stout slogan - Too Smooth to Be Bitter).
From the moment he was born, he was noisy, opinionated, bossy and a total show off. I adored him.
He was my first successful show dog, winning many classes as a baby, (Thanks to Lynne Bateman - Baltoro TT's & Karen Willoughby - Palshar TT's for showing him in the early days when I was being dragged around the ring by his brother Corduroi!) and getting Puppy Stakes placings at a few Champ shows.
He was rarely over looked in his adult classes, winning his Stud Book number in May 2000.
Also in 2000, Murphy became a "cover girl" and featured on the front cover of
Juliette Cunliffe's book The Tibetan Terrier.
In 2001 Murphy started to have trouble with his prostrate gland,
And after he sired his final litter in November 2001 we decided for health reasons he had to be neutered.
Thanks to his gorgeous offspring from that final litter to Khados Almost An Angel with Togepi,
Murphy was awarded Our Dogs & Eukanuba Top Sire 2002 for the wins that just two of his babies had accumulated.
Although not in the ring anymore, Murphy continued to show off around the house and entertain anyone who came to see puppies or visit the pack.
He enjoyed being centre of attention and knew exactly how to get what he wanted!!
Unfortunately he battled ill health for the last 3 years of his life but it wasn't until the beginning of Feb 2009 that he couldn't go on.
The house is empty without him even though his beautiful daughter Mikayla, son Archie, grandchildren and great grandchildren run amuck every day.
I miss him everyday (although don't miss his constant barking!!!) and would love one final cuddle, but he's now at peace with his one true love Annie.
Miss you Dirty!
